Caring For Your Synthetic Saddle

Synthetic Saddle Care

Congratulations on the purchase of your synthetic Collegiate saddle! You’ve made a thrifty and practical choice. Synthetic saddles are low maintenance, but there are a few things you need to know to keep your saddle clean and at the top of its game!

To clean your synthetic saddle you will need warm water and a tack sponge. Wipe down any dust, dirt, etc with your damp sponge. If your saddle features any faux-suede - such as the Collegiate Burghley Dressage, Collegiate Warwick Close Contact and others – you can use a stiff dandy brush to remove any debris caught in the nap of the material.

The billets on your synthetic saddle are leather, so it is important to condition them after cleaning. We recommend either a beeswax based leather balm or neatsfoot oil. You should only need to treat the billets once every few months – whenever they start to feel dry. Be certain not to over treat the leather, as this can be just as damaging as not treating the leather. See our leather care guide for more guidelines on caring for leather.

With the exception of the billets, the rest of your saddle is synthetic, and will not absorb oil or balm like a leather saddle.

This ease of care means you never have to worry about getting caught in the rain with your saddle! Water and dirt wipe away easily, meaning you will spend less time caring for your saddle and more time with your horse!

Once you’ve cleaned your saddle and allowed it to dry, put your Collegiate saddle cover back on and you’re ready to put your saddle away!
