5 years ago, the United Nations declared that World Bee Day would occur on 20th May each year, in order to raise awareness of the importance of bees and beekeeping, inform the public of major beekeeping events around the world and to celebrate Bees

Why this date? 20th May is the birth date of Anton Janša (1734–1773), a Slovenian beekeeper, the pioneer of modern beekeeping and one of the greatest authorities on the subject of bees.

WeatherBeeta’s exciting new Bee Print range is a great way of spreading awareness about the importance of Bees. A conversation starter is all you need to help educate others on the benefits bees bring. But let’s not stop there! This year, we have teamed up with Plan Bee, to adopt 2 beehives at our UK WeatherBeeta Warehouse. Hosting a beehive is a great way to help increase the honeybee population, and, in turn, reap the benefits of boosting pollination, increased plant diversification and honey production.

What can you do to help promote World Bee Day?

Get involved! Talk to your friends about the importance of Bees. Plus, you can name a bee within our WeatherBeeta Hives!

Plant wildflowers- Wildflowers provide bees with nectar and pollen to feed their colony. Bees pollinate these flowers, meaning without this process, it would prevent plants from being able to create seeds.

Avoid using pesticides- Do you like to keep your garden tidy? Read pesticide labels carefully to prevent harm to bees, avoid applying to flowering plants, if necessary make application between sunset and midnight when bees are not active.

Treat them to a tiny bit of sugar- Tired bees appreciate a mix of 2 teaspoons of granulated white sugar with 1 teaspoon of water, made available on a dish or dripped on flowers.

Eat sustainable honey- Choosing organic, local honey will make sure bees are pollinating in pesticide free areas. Host a beehive- Join WeatherBeeta in hosting a beehive in your garden, helping to increase the bee population.
